The largest of the Russian Arctic archipelagos, Novaya Zemlya, is the third largest wildlife area in Europe. Novaya Zemlya is located in the Barents and Kara Seas. It consists of two large islands - North and South, separated by a narrow strait called Matochkin Shar.
The route of our expedition will strongly depend on weather conditions and ice conditions, but we will try to visit Oranic Islands, Inostrantsev Bay, Cape of Zhelanie, Cape Sporoy Navalok and Russian Harbour.
We bid farewell to the Novaya Zemlya and head north to the mysterious Franz Josef Land archipelago. On board you can listen to lectures from expedition guides or just enjoy the extraordinary views from the open deck.
Franz Josef Land.
It is an inaccessible and remote archipelago consisting of 192 islands, most of which are covered with ice.
On the island of Jackson is located Cape Norway, where from 1895 to 1896 wintering legendary Norwegian explorers Fredrik Hjalmar Johansen and Fridtjof Nansen. Despite the harsh conditions, they managed to hold out until summer, after which they continued their journey south. The remains of their small hut can still be found on the island, as can the monument commemorating this heroic event. In Tikhaya Bay it is as if you are going back in time to watch an abandoned meteorological station on Hookera Island. Here you will immerse yourself in the history of Russian polar research. And from the local post office you can even send a postcard to your family and friends.
The islands of Stolichka and Apolonov offer you huge rookeries of walruses. If the ice conditions and weather conditions allow, we will be able to sail by motorboats in close proximity to these huge animals.
Our journey is nearing completion. As we sail towards Murmansk you will have the opportunity to observe whales and Arctic birds accompanying us on our way home. The expedition guides will sum up the results of the expedition and prepare for you interesting presentations with photos.
Early morning after breakfast farewell to the team, landing and group transfer to the airport or to a railway station.
